The Craftsman - Muniro

Tucked away along Entebbe Road in Uganda, behind corrugated roofs and rows of carved figures, you’ll find the workshop of Muniru Sekyondwa—a passionate woodcarver who transforms raw timber into vibrant stories.

Armed with chisels, mallets, and decades of experience, Muniru works with calm precision. His pieces range from traditional masks to intricate wall hangings, each reflecting both cultural heritage and his own joyful personality.

WeDev Water visited Muniru in his workshop to learn more about his craft, his philosophy, and the role of handmade work in Uganda’s local economy. The short video captures his process, his workspace, and the spirit of a man who carves not only wood, but community.

If you’re ever near Entebbe and hear the rhythmic tapping of wood on metal—follow it. It might just lead you to a master at work.
